Psychological Factors Associated with the Use of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids

We are researchers from the University of Birmingham, investigating the psychological factors that accompany anabolic steroid use within weight training communities. To participate in this study, you must be over the age of 18 and have used anabolic steroids within the last 12 months.

No personal data (e.g., name, date of birth, phone numbers) will be collected to allow direct identification of participants, and all data collected will remain confidential throughout. All data will be collected and stored in accordance with GDPR regulations.

Participation is voluntary and you are free to leave at any time without providing a reason up until two weeks after data collection ends. After this time withdrawal from the study will not be possible. Upon withdrawal, any data collected from you will be deleted.

Participation involves the completion of a 5 - 10-minute-long survey. There will be a follow up survey sent out two weeks after completion of this survey. If you wish to be included in this follow up survey you will have the opportunity to enter in your email address and be entered into a prize draw for a £15 Amazon voucher.

This study aims to enhance the understanding of factors associated with anabolic steroid use, providing information for harm-reduction services (e.g., needle and syringe programmes) to help improve the service they provide for those who use anabolic steroids. This study is funded by the Economic Social Research Council.
